Nivalis Nights Manager Guide — Hiring, Restocking & Staff Priority

Nivalis Nights Manager Guide
Quick answer: Managers unlock when a venue reaches level 3. Build a relationship with an NPC to hire them, and they restock and run the venue while you're away. Patch 01.10 improved their buying behavior; Update #2 documented the full staff task-priority order.
What managers do (COMMUNITY_CONFIRMED)
- Restocking — players consistently observe managers buying and supplying ingredients. This is community-observed behavior, not an official definition.
- Running the venue while you're away — the higher your relationship with the NPC, the better they manage the shop.
How to unlock & hire (COMMUNITY_CONFIRMED)
- Reach venue level 3 — the Nivalis Nights Wiki and multiple guides agree on this threshold. Venue levels rise as you hit revenue, customer-satisfaction and consecutive-profit milestones.
- Build a relationship with the NPC first — you don't hire a top manager straight off the street. Learn their story and raise the relationship level before hiring.
Manager buying behavior — Patch 01.10 (OFFICIAL)
Patch 01.10 (patch notes) lists "Improved manager staff behaviour when buying ingredients." This is the current answer to the launch-week over-purchasing reports.
The 1.0 over-purchasing report (historical — fixed in 01.10)
At launch, a high-interaction Reddit thread reported the 1.0 shopping-list update caused over-purchasing / abnormal charges — managers buying far more than needed and draining cash. This was never in the official Known Issues, but Patch 01.10 directly improved manager buying, so treat it as a 1.0-era issue with the patch as the current answer.
The old workaround — "don't start the manager in the first hour of the day" — is outdated and unverified after Patch 01.10; don't rely on it.
Staff task priority — Update #2 (OFFICIAL)
Update #2 (patch notes) documents the 10-level staff task priority order — the first official statement of it:
- Serve meal
- Process ingredient
- Make meal
- Take order
- Manager deliver
- Manager buy
- Manager complaint
- Cleanup meal
- Cleaner trash
- Cleaner storage
A single-staff venue with too many seats can leave customers unserved — one employee works down this list, so cooking and cleaning wait while orders and complaints pile up.
Troubleshooting
Shopping list still appears (COMMUNITY_CONFIRMED)
The shopping list can still appear even while a manager is working. That alone does not mean the manager is broken — it's a known point of confusion. The exact trigger isn't documented, so we don't infer the algorithm.
Manager efficiency (COMMUNITY_REPORTED)
A player reports Business Skill Level 2 shows Manager Efficiency 0% → 30% (Reddit). Needs an in-game screenshot to confirm.
Manager has no obvious marker (COMMUNITY_REPORTED)
A hired manager may have no obvious marker like regular employees. Needs verification.
Rotten food / FIFO (COMMUNITY_REPORTED — not a confirmed cause)
Some players suspect spoiled ingredients affect manager behavior. Still reported after Patch 01.10, but not confirmed as a cause — needs reproduction. (Update #2 separately confirmed older ingredients are used first, which reduces rotten food but may lower the "Food Freshness" review.)
What's still unknown (we won't guess)
- Restock threshold / budget formula / buying algorithm — no official documentation; we record observed behavior without inventing numbers.
- Exact manager costs, skill levels and schedules — still being confirmed from the live build.
- Whether rotten food directly freezes staff/managers — not established.
