Get the free Rusty Fishing Rod from Boardwalk Ady at the Docks, equip it from your inventory, cast with left-click and reel when the face icon turns amber. There are 24 catchable fish, each with a Steam achievement, and fish feed your restaurant as a fresh ingredient.
How to get the fishing rod (COMMUNITY_CONFIRMED)
There is no quest marker pointing you to the rod — you just have to find the right NPC at the docks:
- Take a taxi from the southwest side of Meridian Market — pick the cab marked "Take Cab to Docks".
- Walk down the ramps to the main Docks area (you'll see a fishing trawler and a small rowboat docked together at the bottom).
- On the pier across from those boats, find Boardwalk Ady fishing. Talk to him and he gives you the Rusty Fishing Rod for free.
The rod does not equip automatically — open your inventory (I), find the Rusty Fishing Rod, and click the hand icon next to its name to put it in your hand.
Fishing controls (COMMUNITY_CONFIRMED)
- Aim your crosshair at any body of water — the boardwalk, the ocean, or the canals near the Docks all work.
- Left-click to cast.
- Wait for the on-screen face icon to turn amber (something's hooked), then left-click again to reel in.
The face icon is the bite indicator:

Your catch can also be trash — some hooked items sell for surprisingly high prices, so not every amber icon is a fish.
Selling fish — freshness matters (COMMUNITY_CONFIRMED)
Fish decay over time: a decaying fish sells for less than half a fresh one, and prices also shift with the day and the buyer. Sell quickly, or use fish fresh in the kitchen.
The Underground Fish Market (COMMUNITY_CONFIRMED)
After your first catch, return to Ady. He asks for 2 Burbot, 1 Stickleback, and 3 Pike — bring them and he adds you to the Underground Fish Market, a separate selling outlet.

Fishing ties directly into your restaurant: fresh-caught fish make higher-value dishes, and running out means either pulling menu items or substituting lower-quality store-bought fish. Fishing is part of your ingredient supply, not just a side activity.
The boat (OFFICIAL + COMMUNITY_REPORTED)
The official description confirms you can use your own boat to explore and fish. You do not start with a boat — boat ownership comes from quests, and there's a secret Seafarer achievement for becoming a boat captain and exploring the sea. New areas are reached through marked tunnels.
Patch 01.10 (patch notes) improved cockpit visibility and reduced the nausea issue in the boat — if the first-person cockpit made you motion-sick at launch, this patch is the fix.
Two behaviors are community-reported and still need live confirmation:
- Sleep on the boat — players report the boat can be used to pass the night, linking fishing to the curfew/sleep system.
- Night fishing — players report fishing is available at night.
